Assignment 2: Learners’ Dictionary

1.Bold
not afraid of taking risks and making difficult decisions.
example: In a surprisingly bold move, he is threatening court action against the company.

2.Gadget
a small, useful, and cleverly-designed machine or tool
example: He showed her several electronic gadgets, such as a watch that you can use as a phone.

3.Rival
a person, group, or organization that you compete with in sport, business, a fight etc
example: He finished 39 seconds ahead of his main rival.

4.arguably
used when giving your opinion to say that there are good reasons why something might be true
example: Sketchpad was not only the first drawing program, but was arguably the best, absurdly ahead of its time.

5.subsidy
money that is paid by a government or organization to make prices lower, reduce the cost of producing goods etc
example: Congress may cut some subsidies to farmers.
